What is the Concours d’Elegance?

A licensed real estate broker in the state of New York, Herbert Roy Zucker has more than 45 years of experience in real estate and wealth management. Outside of work, Herbert Roy Zucker maintains an interest in luxury car brands such as Ferrari and Rolls Royce. He has participated in the Concours d'Elegance at Manhasset, New York, and Pebble Beach, California.

Originating in 17th century France, the Concours d’Elegance, or Gathering of Elegance, referred to aristocracy parading through Paris parks in horse-drawn carriages. As motor cars replaced carriages, the event became more competitive in nature and expanded to numerous countries around the world. Since 1950, the Concours d’Elegance has invited car enthusiasts to share their passion for automobiles on the 18th fairway of the Pebble Beach Golf Links; their 71st event will take place on August 21, 2022.

The Pebble Beach competition among historic automobiles relies on Class Judges to consider each car’s history, technical merit, authenticity, and restoration quality to deem a winner. The winners of each class progress to a final competition, where judges crown the prestigious Best in Show. Alongside the competition, the concourse showcases concepts and designs in new automobiles and hosts an auction of rare and fine cars. In one such auction, a 1933 Alfa Romeo Tipo 8C 2300 Spider sold for $1.6. million.
